In 1994, I was doing freelance graphic design work with 3 young children. I was asked to interview for the Executive Director job of a new nonprofit in Georgetown, Kids Voting. I knew nothing about raising $ or nonprofits and only how to vote myself. Kids Voting was started here by the League of Women Voters. I was interviewed by the Republican & Democratic leaders of the local chapter. They took a chance on me and it turned out well and was a lot of fun, plus I learned a lot about voting!
