Independence is related to freedom

Collection:

Prompt: From 1876 to 1976, many groups of people, such as women and African Americans, protested the idea of freedom, claiming the United States’ independence did not extend to them. What does independence mean to you?

Independence is related to freedom + freedom should mean that I have the same rights + responsibilities as everyone else within the local state + government context However, this is narrow in that this could mean that everyone is limited—fascism/totalitarianism/communist

So independence also means—somehow—deciding what is the right amount of rights + freedoms to extend to make a country “work” and be welcoming, safe, and some other things for all.
