Biological Overview

Habitat  

You can find Turkeys in the Eastern United States and in forest, and woodlands.  

Diet  

Turkeys Eat nuts, insects, and berries.  

Role in Ecosystem  

Turkeys are omnivores so they eat both plants and animals.  

Behavior  

Turkeys get eaten on thanksgiving morning. When Turkeys try to mate or when they are ready both genders start to show aggression. 

Human Impact

When humans build neighborhoods, shopping stores, or big farms, they cut down the forests and grasslands turkeys need to nest and find food. Humans-cause warming in changing when plants grow. If turkey chicks hatch at the wrong time, they might miss the “buffet” of insects they need to survive.

The Wild Turkey walks through the tall green grass  

He has bright feathers that shine in the sun  

His red neck moves back and forth as he looks for seeds  

He makes a loud gobble sound to call to his friends  

When he is scared, he flaps his wings and flies into a tree  

At night, he sleeps high up on a branch to stay safe
