Habitat 
Raccoons live in coastal marshes and bottomland hardwoods of North America. 
 
Diet 
Raccoons eat plants, fruits, vegetables, grains, and small animals. 
 
Role in Ecosystem 
A Raccoon’s role is to spread seeds, control pest populations, and clean carrion 
 
Behavior 
Raccoon behaviors are foraging, wetting paws, adapting, and making sounds. 

Human Impact

Humans reduce the raccoons’ fear of them. They also increase the mortality rate of raccoons. Humans make raccoons move to cities and adapt to the surrounding environment. Humans also increase the intelligence of the raccoons. 

Creative Exploration

Away from the rest. 
I dig through the trash looking for a feast 
Instead I’m met with a beast. 
Don’t be scared don’t be frightened 
Just have your senses heightened.  
I dig through the trash all day 
Just for a human to be in my way.  
They scream they yell, they try to get me away  
I’m never in the way just going through my day. 
I scurry away in a panic  
The humans they think I’m manic. 
But I’m just trying to feed my child  
Who hasn’t ate in a while. 
I haven’t ate in a while. 
Guess I’ll try again tomorrow
