The pitcher plant’s role is breaking down and eliminating small insects by trapping them in their vase-like base and closing the top lid of the plant.  

Behavior  

The pitcher plant traps and breaks down small insects. 

Human Impact

Humans can impact pitcher plants by spraying their yard with too much fertilizer and polluting the earth such as littering. Too many nutrients from fertilizers, pollution, and other factors overload the system, it can disrupt life. The pitcher plant kills off insects like horse flies and mosquitoes. These insects cause disease for humans, so the Pitcher Plants help with that.

This north american carnivore   

Really has a big chore   

That’s clearing the spring forest floor   

Of ridding the bothersome insects   

At a height of 3 feet   

This vase-like plant is pretty neat   

And is a hard plant to beat   

To insects it’s a feat   

So most have to accept defeat   

But to their despise   

Some insects have eyes in the skies   

Some insects know better   

But others become vulnerable to the living shredder  

This is a living garniture   

This is the story of the north american carnivore   

With a very big chore   

Of clearing the spring forest floor
