I remember that my father would load watermelons and other produce on the back of his truck and go to neighborhoods in Aiken to sell produce. My mother also worked at the produce stand on Highway 1 years after our family rented a small grocery store for five years. My sister continues taking produce and selling at the Ridge Spring Market, where my mother worked with him until the age of 80 plus. I also work with my brother on occasion at the farmers market, where we sell a family recipe, Chow Chow.
