The Land Which Raised Me

Collection:

Prompt: Write about a person in your life who taught you something meaningful about living and working in rural South Carolina. What traditions did they pass on? How did they shape your understanding of the land and community?

As a young child the importance to the land was envisioned as a source of family, that which was passed generation upon generation. Although, none were buried here, they lived here.

There is no more land to be made, I was told by my grandmother. Her stated belief has grown with me as has the plants which came from the seeds distilled into the rows that Adore the fields. The land served as the resource of life as only we can thank of by our giving back to it through care and sweat.
