When I was a teenager, I decided
I wanted to travel. College didn’t
seem like an option at the time.
So I decided I wanted to be a
airline “stewardess”. My family was
supportive but hesitant to be too
supportive (so I wouldn’t be disappointed, I guess).
As I drew closer to the age
I could apply (19).. I researched airlines,
many of them had HQ in Miami. I
guess I inspired others to do the
same and my best friend, Donna got
hired by National, my boyfriend by
Pan AM. I after several interviews
had seen no success & decided I was
not good-looking enough & too heavy.
I had started looking into
joining the Air Force when I got
a letter from Delta Airlines. This was
about my 10th airline letter. They flew
me to Atlanta where I was interviewed.
I didn’t think I did too well but
I got my “acceptance” letter two weeks
later. So began my journey with
the airlines – oh yes. I traveled, but I also
got another more important education about the South.
