Get There Before the Voyagers Bowling League

Collection:

Prompt: Tell a story about something memorable and/or impactful in which one or more seasons played a part

For 25 years I bowled with the Voyagers Bowling League across from Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. Our team did better at drinking than we did at bowling. But I occasionally bowled through the fall, through winter, and through spring. In the third week in July, which is summer, we would travel as a Vacation League. We go to the Caribbean or someplace in the United States. One year we would cruise and the next year we would do land things. But beware of the Voyagers Bowling League.

When we went to Montserrat in 1997, a volcano happened two weeks after we left. When we went to New Orleans in 2005, Katrina happened three weeks later. When we went to the Dominican Republic in 2001 on American Airlines 587, by that September, it had crashed. So, the warning is: if you wanted to go someplace, you don’t have to worry now, because the Voyagers Bowling League does not exist.
