Dear Teresa,

Collection:

Prompt: What does democracy meant to you? Please write this in the form of a postcard to somebody–it can be anybody you like.

Dear Teresa,

I’m dropping you a line while traveling, seeing other countries in person. Gives me a better perspective on democracy. I see if political unrest here, and racism, classism and other isms are prevalent here in England, just as they are in the States.

To me democracy is akin to healthy relationships, in that, while there may be different ideas and beliefs, there is a mutual respect between those sharing ideas and beliefs, America is like a patchwork quilt, and yet everyone is not treated fairly justly equally and were respect to me. Direct democracy means a place of equality, bearness, social justice, empathy, where violence, hate, and -isms have no place in America.

Still. Oh, America still has a long way to go to get to freedom and justice for all.
