My great-grandfather, Monroe, was strong and had the mouth of a sailor, and he was definitely hot in the head. When I was little, he had to mitigate his swearing somehow and he did it in many ways. I remember he would talk about “sunny beaches,” he would talk about “holy ships,” and he would talk about “mothers of truckers” and various other things that I’ve forgotten, to mitigate his swearing around me. Sometimes it didn’t work, but that’s alright.
