I believe there are many problems that face Aiken as a larger community. Unfortunately I am uncertain if we are taking actions to face these challenges. One community that I have witnessed address challenges is my Next Generation youth members. Year after year these teens identify challenges and work to take actionable steps to address the challenge. One project that stands out in my mind is a blessing closet at our school. One young lady noticed that many students at our school had clothing, hygiene, and food needs. She worked with the other members and included other clubs to create a blessing closet on our campus. Students who are able donate items daily. Students who are in need access the closet daily. This is a beautiful example of kids helping kids. Each day students in need discreetly access our blessing closet.
