I like the stretch of dirt road 
between a highway in Camden to my friend's house in the trees, 
where her horses stand in the pasture 
looking at me that drive by. 

Plain dirt from the paved road to her house. 
Dirt I can walk on barefooted 
or ride her horse down the rest of the road, 
winding through woods, just one house, 
the rest trees. 

Dirt roads take me back to chickens, 
pecan trees,
wood houses with porches and ice tea. 

I'm going on the farm tour in June to see other dirt roads and where they lead.
