Peppers and Onions

Collection:

Prompt:

Jayce is a friend of mine and fellow student here at Coastal Carolina. We have known each other for over 4 years and have been close friends throughout. At the time of this story, if I remember correctly, he had most likely just gotten out of work from Mo’s. The last conversation I had with Jayce was between him and another friend, but the argument was about how most foods had peppers and onions within them. Midway through this conversation, it transformed into the ridiculous idea that meats that were cooked at home need peppers and onions, and without it, they aren’t really cooked properly.

The argument started after the other friend had introduced the idea that peppers and onions are an ingredient that is essential to his cooking, and by extension, it’s an essential ingredient to almost any. Jayce and I had argued that this was a little stupid to bring up, as there is plenty of foods that are fine without seared peppers and onions (an example that was given for this was pastas), but the other friend argued that these ingredients are so versatile that there is no reason not to cook with them. The other friend then suggested that perhaps these foods shouldn’t really be considered meals without peppers and onions. Me and Jayce, from this point forward, withdrew from the argument and then ignored the other friends’ attempts to bring it back up. This conversation had lasted an hour and only concluded when it became clear that it was just ridiculous.
