Darryl Meets the Cyclone

Collection:

Prompt:

His usual stern and serious nature was traded in for a dramatic exhibition of whooping and hollering when riding the Carolina Cyclone with his daughter. After a day full of puny kiddy amusement park rides at Carowinds, Darryl was noticeably bored. That is, until the family came across the Carolina Cyclone. It’s then the yellow tracks, curled into curves and loopty loops that the thrillseeker found, rather charming. He just HAD to have a go. In a successful attempt to bribe his equally fearless daughter into riding the coaster, he told stories of his young adulthood that made him sound older than he actually was.

“You haven’t road a real coaster til you’ve been to Six Flags and road this big ol’ rollercoaster with an unimaginable speed and height to match its other daring features,” he bragged as they waited in line, boosting up his ego. The adventurous duo finally made it to the front of the line and the front of the train, and as soon as the ride attendant said “dispatch,” He was a complete and utter embarrassment. Screams of excitement soared, no, roared, no, more like croaked out of his throat. The thing is, there was nothing to be excited about. They hadn’t even reached the drop yet. And you would’ve thought  I’d stop after the ride. Well, I’m here to report it didn’t! You quite literally see the adrenaline coming off of this man like a bright light. And you suddenly realize that it has been there all along from the start. A bright light for his children, for his family, for fun that in some cases seems dim, but is still forever burning bright.
