I wrote about a place where I grew up called Witches Hill, which is off Humbert Road. And Witches Hill got its name because in the 1700s or 1800s, there was a woman named Prissy, which they renamed Hexy at some point. But her real name was actually Priscilla Rug, and she was a living, breathing woman for the time period. And apparently, she did not go by the gender codes of the time, and she was often seen riding a horse in the way they would consider improper for a woman, a white horse, and just running around and speaking her mind. So that got changed into that Prissy was doing witchcraft within the mountains, and they had a covenant. And then after she passed, you can still see horse hoof prints or hear a horse galloping through the woods. You want to stay out of Witches Hill, so you don’t get a hex.
