I’m a storyteller

Collection:

Prompt: Write about one of the folktales you’ve heard in the course of your life

I’m a writer and storyteller myself. So I thought I would share the story that my grandmother told me of why she thought I would become a storyteller. So I grew up with, and I’m from a relatively cheap community. And my grandmother would always tell me that if I heard my name called, I should always check with the people around or the people in the house to make sure that it was someone actually calling my name or speaking to me. And I shouldn’t just answer when I heard my name called, because it could be spirits calling me from the other side. So don’t just answer willy nilly. Of course, as a young person, I wasn’t thinking about it. And I heard my name called at one point when I was in house, and I answered.

Nothing happened. Nobody said anything.

A little bit later, I went to my grandmother and said, “Did you call me? I was sure I heard my name.” And she said that she hadn’t.

She told me, “Well, you’ve already answered now. So this means that you’ve established a connection, you’ve established the communication. So you’re going to be filled with stories from those spirits didn’t have a chance to tell their stories while they were alive. So, now you’re responsible for passing them on. Get ready.”
