In the Field: Sharing Stories of Farming and Agriculture

Communal Pen workshops are at the heart of what we do. Each workshop has a facilitator team and thoughtful prompts with the goal of creating community connection. Read more of our details below of this workshop.

Agriculture and farming are at the heart of rural South Carolina. Farmers have built the state with their toils, sweat, and harvest. Edgefield and the surrounding region have a special tie to agriculture. Whether you grew up stringing tobacco or you’ve finally decided to try your hand at canning, join this free workshop at the newly opened Johnston Genealogical Research Center.

This fun-filled workshop will be led by Dr. Walter Curry, popular speaker and artist from Orangeburg, South Carolina. Dr. Curry has authored several books on his own family’s deep ties to agriculture in South Carolina and has created several paintings that will be used as fodder for this 2-hour workshop. This workshop is open to writers and storytellers of all experience levels and from five to ninety-five. Writing supplies and refreshments are provided for this free workshop, but registration is required to allow for any accessibility needs.
