South Carolinians are blessed with abundance in their own backyards. Grandmothers and root doctors have been making medicines from the earth for centuries. Where do you look for healing? Share the remedies and traditions from your heritage. Free registration also includes a foraging walk in Columbia on Friday, May 24 at 4:30 p.m.
This is the third workshop in a May series of virtual community writing workshops with additional opportunities for in-person, follow-up activities in locations throughout South Carolina. Under the banner of Communal Pen, in collaboration with South Carolina Arts Commission, these workshops will explore distinctly South Carolinian resources, sights, and stories, and what they mean to participants, both Bin Ya and Come Ya.
This workshop will explore the ways South Carolina nature provides sustenance and promotes health. Participants can share their personal experiences, from favorite home remedies to memories of a fruitful mushroom hunt. An in-person foraging walk will take place in Columbia the following Saturday. Registration is free to participants.
Facilitator
Matt Kip, founder and director of Full Belly Foraging, will start the workshop by sharing his experiences in teaching about the wild food and medicines in Columbia, SC.
