Gullah Geechee Community Day celebrates the enduring legacy and living traditions of Gullah Geechee culture and its vital contributions to South Carolina. Rooted in the history of West African descendants who, through resilience and creativity, preserved their languages, stories, foodways, and customs, Gullah Geechee heritage continues to shape the cultural identity of Horry and Georgetown counties today.
At this pop-up workshop, participants will be invited to reflect on personal and collective histories through a guided workshop. Together, we’ll consider how Gullah Geechee traditions have influenced the places we call home, the food we share, and the stories we tell. This event offers a chance for all voices to honor, preserve, and celebrate the richness of Gullah Geechee culture as part of South Carolina’s shared heritage.
