One of my fondest childhood

Collection:

Prompt: Day from youth or young adulthood in my community

One of my fondest childhood
memories was walking to and from
school in the snow. Growing up
in the city we would have
8-10 inches of snow. That
meant extra socks, long johns,
boots, hat and scarf. We would
play in that snow. Those mittens
would get wet as we made
snow balls and fought all the
way there. When the snow was
high we would climb over
those mounds. Some of us
would carry something dry
in our bag to change into!
The teacher knew we had a
great time heading to school.
Sometimes she would have
to quiet us down. The excitement
was felt by us all.
At the end of the day, it
was time for us to begin our journey again. This
time, some of the snow had
melted. It was okay. We
could still throw some
snow balls. I could climb
a mound or two.
The best of this day is when
I returned home, Mom
would meet me at the door.
She would kiss us as we
came in. With a smile on
her face, she would
say, “hot cocoa is on the
table.” Oh what a great way
to end my day!
