Letters from Now

Collection:

Prompt: Day from youth or young adulthood in my community

Do you remember that hot summer day, slowly
melting in the heat, watching the parade go by
in a folding chair? You were
captivated by the scene, absorbed in
the moment, oblivious to the future.
That felt like the world – that community
gathering with so much fanfare.
Do you know, there is so much that turns
Around that world? So much wider community
you have not experienced? Imagine, one
day you will stand on the sidelines of a
similar event, a festival in Korea –
and you will be grabbed by the arm
to become a part of it. Whisked away
from being a bystander to dance and
wave and shout as part of it.
Festivals – those great
conveners of people and celebrations
of local beauty – will always draw
and captivate you. Keep going to
them to learn and see expand your horizons. But don’t
hesitate to become a part of the action.
