Although technology is changing at near lightening
speed, I think for the most part, rural life in
Barnwell County will mostly “look” the same,
at least from the outside.
Hopefully more small businesses are
supported by the local population. Hopefully
locals continue to support local agriculture
as well.
When I travel, now, I see “advancements”
in Technology that are not only embraced but expected
in larger towns. By example – how long
has say New York City, Los Angeles had
internet Coffee shops. They began
back in the day because the demand
was there they exist today because the
it is just expected.
Do you know how man internet Caffe’s
Barnwell has? None. All these years,
The demands we have, we make on other places
But somehow Barnwell remains nearly the same.
I just don’t see that in 30 years she will
Change that much.
On the larger scale – I see a movement,
Even for those urban dwellers, to understand
And be able to live more remotely. By the
droves, people are deciding to “give up” city life
and more rural.
They want a slower pace and they want
to live a more organic life. They want to
Know where their food comes from and how
to grow most of it. They also want to
learn the skills necessary to not only
survive but thrive in a rural setting.
