When I first started working in heir’s property, I really had no idea how succession worked. I thought that land was passed down automatically and that you could just go to the courthouse and pick up your deed. I was shown a documentary about how the idea of Heir’s Property and probate was used by predatory developers to take advantage of vulnerable communities, and it made me angry. After learning more, it made me proud to be an advocate for people protecting themselves.
