Remember walking around town after several hurricanes and floods. The worst flood—I think it was 2018— was a terrible event for the city. I saw people fishing in their backyards. I saw houses with water up over the windows. I smelled rotting garbage and decaying fish as the water receded. But I also saw people of the town smiling, eager to move forward, and committed to rebuilding and carrying on. These experiences prompted me to write several songs about the resilience of this place.
