When I was very young, one of my first memories that I actually can retain was the deafening silence in my room. My parents worked late, and my mom would sleep in. I remember the silence of not only my room, but the whole house, usually, and all I could hear was my heartbeat thumping in my head. It kind of drove me crazy a little bit sometimes. I was a little miserable, but it was also quite scary, because the occasional house noise would make my mind just go everywhere. I would think that it was some sort of monster from my nightmares.
