Fish Fry

Collection:

Prompt: Write about your first job. What job did you have? What lessons have you taken from that experience?

When I started working, no one paid attention to child labor laws. I was 13, and my brother was 11. We went to work in this Minister’s Cafe every Friday where he sold fried fish. So, my brother cleaned the fish, and I put the batter on it and then threw it into the hot grease. No one complained, as they were too busy washing the fish down with the beer, which they really went there to consume. The fish was just to say they ate something nice.
