At the age of 17, I moved to Columbia, South Carolina. I was born and raised in Clinton, South Carolina. I had never traveled to any other place but Newberry, South Carolina. I was frightened and did not know what to expect. I only knew my parents expected nothing but the best out of me.
I moved into a dorm room with two bunk beds and two closets on my college campus. Some may have thought this was too small. However, for me, it was quite large. I grew up in a home with eleven people, nine children, and two parents. I slept in a bed with four people, and we all shared one bathroom. Having the communal bathroom was a joy.
