Role in Ecosystem

They act as ecosystem engineers forage along river bottoms

Behavior

Adults return to natal rivers to spawn and children stay at natal rivers for 2-6 years.

Human Impact

There has been historic overfishing. They hunted them for their caviar this was known has the black gold rush. They have also have been affected by dams this blocked there migration leading to a decline in population. Vessel strikes have also affected them by killing many females in the Delaware, Hudson ,and James River. And pollution have also affected the Atlantic Sturgeon.

Creative Exploration

Zander the sturgeon got lost on the Atlantic coast during a migration. Roman the sturgeon was alarmed after noticing his friend Zander was not their and went to look for him. Roman found up and down streams to find his friend. Roman got very hungry and had a quick snack of crustaceans and worms. After he was satisfied, he kept swimming to find his friend. After wandering around, trying to find the group Zander got hungry too, so he saw a swarm of small fish and ate some. As Zander kept swimming, he saw Roman and swam over to him. They rejoiced and after the reunion then kept migrating, this time staying close together.
