Biological Overview

Habitat  

Mature pine-hardwood forests. They would rather be in an open area with tall trees and little plants.  

Diet  

Seeds they like are pine seeds, sunflower seeds, and osage-orange seeds.  

Role in Ecosystem  

They run up and down trees and walk/run up and down fences.  

Behavior  

They are workers in their ecosystem, and they collect stuff so that the nuts and seeds don’t overpopulate. 

Human Impact

Some significant human impacts on fox squirrels are like habitat destruction, urbanization, and creating new, often perilous, environments. Humans can also hurt their home, because whenever humans need to build something, they will chop down trees, and that can also hurt more animals than just fox squirrels. To help this not happen, we (humans) can start to build buildings in areas that are not forests and can start to rebuild houses/buildings. 

Creative Exploration

As the sun rises up, I go out into the forest and collect some seeds and nuts. After I collect my food, I will eat some and store the rest for the winter, As I finish storing my food I go outside and I run around and climb on trees, While I’m running up and down trees, I find a friend to play with. We play until it gets dark, and then I will find my way home. As I find my way home, I collect more food to eat for dinner and to store for my family for the winter.
