Eats Marsh Snails, lowering populations, and stopping eating of marsh grass.

Behavior

Hibernates in winter; mates in spring, where egg temperature decides gender; makes burrows in mud.

Human Impact

Over 100 years ago, the diamondback terrapin was hunted, going from having a large population to near extinction for food and their shells to use in jewelry. They are now considered high priority for conservation by the South Carolina government. Today, poachers still exist, looking for the turtles. This, however, has sparked a massive outrage from the general public, and has given birth to many protests and missions to save them.

Creative Exploration

I am the diamondback terrapin. I start my day by swimming through my slightly salty water swamp with my webbed feet to find food such as marsh snails or fish to eat. Then, due to the Spring season, I attempt to find a mate. Then, after a little while, I give up for the day to try again later so I can avoid being captured by evil poachers. Then at last, in the dark of night, I find an area with a low tide, dig a burrow, and go to sleep.
